With Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerging as the single largest party in Tamil Nadu’s 2026 assembly elections, the financial disclosures of its founder and chief C. Joseph Vijay have drawn significant attention.
According to a 27-page affidavit filed with the Election Commission of India on March 30, 2026, Vijay has declared a net worth of ₹624 crore. This includes ₹404 crore in movable assets and ₹220 crore in immovable assets. His income for FY 2024–25 stood at ₹184.53 crore, sourced from self-employment, rental income and interest earnings.
A standout detail in the affidavit is ₹213.36 crore held in a single savings account at Indian Overseas Bank’s Saligramam branch. Unlike diversified investments, this amount sits in a regular savings account and alone makes up over one-third of his total declared wealth. In addition, Vijay has ₹100 crore parked in fixed deposits across multiple banks, taking his total bank-based holdings to over ₹313 crore in low-risk instruments.
In contrast, his exposure to equity markets is negligible. The affidavit lists total shareholdings worth just ₹19.37 lakh, including stakes in Jaya Nagar Property Pvt Ltd, Indian Overseas Bank, and Sun Paper Mill Ltd. No mutual funds, bonds or debentures have been declared.
Vijay’s real estate portfolio, valued at ₹220 crore, spans residential, commercial and land assets. Residential properties across Chennai localities such as Neelankarai, Saligramam, Mylapore and Egmore are valued at around ₹115 crore. Commercial properties in Parivakkam, Thyagaraya Nagar, Sholinganallur and Koppur account for ₹82.8 crore, including a 2.30-acre Koppur property purchased in 2023 for ₹35.81 crore. Additional land holdings in Porur, Saligramam and Neelankarai are valued at ₹22 crore, while agricultural land in Kodaikanal has appreciated significantly from its original purchase price.
The affidavit also highlights a luxury vehicle portfolio worth ₹13.52 crore, featuring high-end models including a Lexus 350, BMW i7 and other premium vehicles. Jewellery holdings include 883 grams of gold worth ₹1.20 crore and silver articles valued at ₹15 lakh.
A notable aspect of Vijay’s financial profile is ₹75.5 crore extended as loans and advances to individuals, trusts and companies. Major recipients include Kokilambal Educational Foundation, family members and business associates.
His spouse, Sangeetha Vijay, has declared assets worth ₹15.76 crore, primarily in fixed deposits, bank balances and jewellery.
The affidavit also discloses pending income tax disputes, including a ₹1.50 crore penalty linked to the film Puli, along with additional demands from previous assessment years. Some of these matters remain under appeal.
Vijay’s financial disclosures present a profile that is heavily skewed towards bank deposits and real estate, with minimal exposure to market-linked instruments. As his political journey gathers pace, these details offer a closer look at the asset structure of one of Tamil Nadu’s most high-profile political entrants.
